I'm sorry but I'm staying at Barcelona, reveals Samuel Umtiti
Samuel Umtiti arrived at Barcelona three years ago as a highly rated prospect, but hasn't left the mark everyone was expecting. The 25-year-old is constantly switching from the first eleven to the bench with Clément Lenglet, and was even rumoured to be included in Neymar's deal this summer.
The centre-back was linked in a move away from the Catalans during this transfer window, mainly to Arsenal as Unai Emery's team were desperate to sign a quality player to replace the departure of Laurent Koscielny, according to Goal. However, the Barcelona star reacted to these rumours, suggesting they were all made up by the media, even questioning as to whether or not Arsenal even made an approach.
"Honestly, I don't know where this rumour with Arsenal came from. Overnight, I received messages from my friends 'ah, so you are joining Arsenal?' I'm not, I'm sorry but I'm staying at Barcelona. Contacts with Arsenal? To be honest, I don't know if they had conversations with my agent, I just told him that I didn't care what was happening this summer and that it wasn't even necessary to talk to me about it. It was useless, I was going to have the same answer." said a surprised Umtiti to Goal.
The French international had an off-year last season, thanks in part to his various injuries issues that made him be out of Ernesto Valverde options for quite some time. He only participated in 14 games in all competitions for the current Spanish champions.
