Christian Pulisic has claimed that people cannot compare him to club legend Eden Hazard. The Belgian finally left for Real Madrid this summer, and with Pulisic arriving at the same time, it was inevitable that some people would regard the American as a like for like replacement for Hazard.

With Eden Hazard leaving for Real Madrid and Chelsea hit by a transfer ban, there was always going to be questions as to whether or not the Blues would be able to survive. But Frank Lampard’s arrival and his willingness to use the club’s youngsters to help the Blues move forward has changed the perspective about the club. However, with Hazard leaving and Pulisic arriving around the same time, many have expected the young American to take over from where the Belgian left off.

But despite similiarities between the two forwards, they are two different players and even Pulisic has admitted the same. In an interview with Chelseafc.com, the American has revealed that he cannot be compared to a club legend like Hazard and that he plans to show everyone just what he can do.

“I have heard people say that I will replace Hazard. But it is not how I look at it. It should not be how anyone does because he was a club legend and he did amazing things here and he is an unbelievable player, but I am coming here as a known player and I am going to show everyone what I can do and play the best I can, for myself and for the club, and that is all I can do,” Pulisic told Chelseafc.com.

With Lampard allowing Chelsea’s youngsters a chance to flourish in the Premier League, becoming one of the club’s first managers to do that, it’s a tactic that has worked in his favour. The likes of Tammy Abraham, Fikayo Tomori, Mason Mount and even Kurt Zouma have all flourished, with Abraham and Mount combining to score 10 goals. This has seen Pulisic admit that while the Blues have a young squad, they can still chase after trophies and even titles.

“Of course we have young players in our squad but that is no reason why we should not go after trophies. We are going to give it everything and push to win everything that we can. I am not sure what people think or what people say but we are a very exciting team with a ton of talent and if we continue to build this chemistry and build the way we are, I think it is going to go really well.

“We have learnt so much [under Frank Lampard]. He has been fantastic, he has so much knowledge of the game. He played at the highest level, he played here so he knows what it is all about so it has been great,” concluded the American.
