Premier League Champions Manchester City ‘want to open talks’ on a deal which would see Leicester City centre back Caglar Soyuncu join the Etihad based club. The Cityzens are awfully short of options at the centre-back due to injuries, which has seen them call up Eric Garcia and convert Fernandinho.

Leicester have already lost one of their best defenders to Manchester United with Harry Maguire opting to leave in the summer for a fee of £80 million and now a risk remains that one of their top-performing centre backs this season might join the Cityzens. The Foxes chose not to reinvest the mammoth amount of money they got from the sale of Maguire into another centre back. The club felt confident with the squad depth and the squad have enough strength to cope.

It has seen Caglar Soyuncu get a chance to flourish and his performances has gathered a lot of attention this season. He has been heavily involved in all the games playing full 90 minutes in all the six Premier League games, showing that he can rise to the occasion and has filled in comfortably well in Maguire’s absence. His steely performances has impressed the bosses at Manchester City and are eager to make a move for him.

The blue half of Manchester are in desperate need of defensive cover and TalkSport reports that the Cityzens are considering a deal. Their reliable centre-back Aymeric Laporte is out until February and John Stones will be out of action till late October. To make matters worse, the club did not sign a replacement for legend Vincent Kompany who left the team at the end of last season.

Turkish Publication Fotospor further reports that City hierarchy are keen and want to open talks with Soyuncu’s agent over a possible switch. If the deal is to go through it will most likely happen next summer than in the winter transfer window. The Cityzens currently have only one senior centre back in the form of Nicolas Otamendi, with Fernandinho having been made into a makeshift centre back. The 23-year-old Soyuncu would add much-needed depth in the centre back area for City.
