CEO and Chairman of The Friedkin group Dan Friedkin has admitted that they are looking to make AS Roma one of ‘the greatest names in world football’ after the group acquired the club. Paulo Fonseca’s side laboured to a fifth place finish in Serie A and will play in the Europa League next season.

After months and months of speculation, AS Roma’s takeover has finally been completed, with The Friedkin Group acquiring 86.6% majority share in the club from James Pallotta. This comes after months of speculation and negotiations, with the Houston-based ownership group looking to help improve the Serie A giants and make them even better. The three time Scudetti winners struggled this term under Paulo Fonseca and laboured to a fifth place finish behind Lazio and Atalanta.

The takeover has many fans happy for their future under The Friedkin Group and the group’s first statement revealed that they’re looking to do a lot for the club. In his first interview as owner of AS Roma, Dan Friedkin, the CEO and Chairman of The Friedkin group, admitted that they’re looking to make Roma one of the greatest names in world football. He also added that the group is looking to help improve the club financially but also at the same time strengthen the "soul of Rome".

"We are delighted to join the AS Roma family. As one fan wrote recently, 'Take our iconic club and make it one of the greatest names in world football'. We intend to do just that. Our commitment to Roma is total. We will be very present in Rome, a city that holds a special place in our hearts, as we embark on this exciting journey. We recognise we are entrusted with a team that is a vital part of the soul of Rome, and this is a responsibility that we find humbling and will always take very seriously," Friedkin told Roma’s official website.

"As business owners, we look to identify and back strong management teams and leadership. Guido Fienga has proven to be a great CEO of Roma, and together we have developed an ambitious and disciplined business plan. We will give him the support, guidance and means to deliver on this plan and, to help maintain focus over these crucial weeks ahead, it will be primarily his voice that will speak for AS Roma."

The Giallorossi have struggled to win trophies over the last decade despite reaching three finals, and they last won a Serie A title at the end of the 2000/01 season. Since then, the club have finished second on numerous occasions but much like their conquests in the Europa League, Champions League or Coppa Italia, Roma have fallen short. It saw Friedkin further add that the group is looking to help improve the club financially and help them challenge for trophies again.

"Our shared vision for the club and the team is to favour a sustained, long-term investment approach rather than quick fixes of questionable durability. I'd also like to take a moment to thank Jim Pallotta and his partners for all they have done for the club. He and his team have been very helpful in preparing for a smooth transition and we wish him nothing but the best in the future.

"Finally, no comments would be complete without acknowledging the incredible strength, passion and loyalty of the fans and the Curva Sud. We will stand shoulder to shoulder with you as we develop this club and challenge for trophies in the future. We can't wait to get to work and for our new season to start,” he added.
