Dabang Delhi beat Jaipur Pink Panthers 30-25 in the third game of PKL season five at the Gachibowli Indoor stadium in Hyderabad. In a faceoff between Meraj Shaikh and Manjeet Chillar, it was Shaikh who managed to come out on top as he claimed seven raid points to take his side home.

Jaipur come flying out of the blocks

After winning the toss, Panthers skipper Manjeet Chillar decided to take the court. In the first attempt, Meraj Shaikh failed to open Delhi’s account but could only manage an empty raid. Jasveer Singh, on the other hand, could not do any better for the Pink Panthers side as he was dashed out. Meanwhile, Rohit Baliyan earned a bonus for Delhi. Eventually, after another empty raid by the Pink Panthers, Manjeet Chillar gave Jaipur their first point with a thigh hold. At this point, the score was 3-2 in Delhi’s favour, but Selvamani squared things up for Jaipur with an ankle hold before Somveer Shekhar put Jaipur in the lead at 5-3. After picking up a bonus point on his previous raid, Rohit Baliyan could only manage an empty raid this time around. The next significant moment in the game came three minutes later when Bajirao Hodage was shown a green card. On his next raid attempt, Rohit Baliyan managed to get a bonus point which reduced the deficit to just one point. But just as it looked like Delhi would settle the score, Jasvir increased the difference once again by taking two key defenders out of the game, Hodage and Shinde. Jasvir then wasted no time as he inflicted the first all-out on Dabang Delhi and increased Jaipur’s lead to 11-4. At that point, it did seem as if Hodage’s  green card had come back to haunt his side. Jasvir, on the other hand, had four raid points out of five with the score now at 13-4. In an attempt to reverse their fortunes, DD brought in Abolfazl Maghsoudlou and there was a ray of hope for Delhi as Selvamani K injured his knee. Finally, with the half coming to an end, Jaipur were awarded two technical points as the half ended with the score at 16-9 in Jaipur’s favour.

Delhi script an amazing comeback win

After the break, Delhi started on a good note as they claimed a point soon. Jaipur Pink Panthers went into the second half without Selvamani, who didn’t return to the court. Dabang Delhi initiated their comeback when Jasvir was taken out by Nilesh Shinde with a brilliant ankle hold which cut Jaipur’s lead to just two points. Soveer Shekhar put a minor dent on Delhi’s comeback as he took Shaikh out again to take the score to 18-16. But the happiness was short lived as with less than 12 minutes remaining, Jasvir failed in his do or die raid, which helped Delhi level the score at 18-18 and also brought Meraj back into the game. Delhi then continued their spree as Hodage took out Chillar in the next raid. Pawan then managed to restore Jaipur’s lead as he took out two key players in Shinde and Shaikh. However, Jaipur’s lead was short lived as Abol Fazal turned the tables for Delhi by taking Somveer Shekhar and Pawan Kumar out. From here, Dabang Delhi did not back down as Meraj’s Brilliant scorpion kick took Manoj Dhul out of the game. After Hodage’s dash took Jasvir out of the game, Meraj Shaikh inflicted an all out on the Pink Panthers, thereby extending Delhi’s lead to 21-27.  In a last attempt to save the game, Jaipur argued that Meraj Sheykh had stopped the cant, but the officials did not agree with them. After that, there was no disputing the result of the game as Nilesh Shinde ended with a “high five” as Delhi managed a 25-30 win.
