Middle-order batsman Kedar Jadhav will not be taking part in India’s three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka after he failed to recover from the hamstring injury. He will be replaced by Tamil Nadu all-rounder Washington Sundar who has been brilliant in the IPL as well as in the TNPL.

The 26-year-old batting all-rounder from Pune had been in the rehabilitation work since last week at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore. He was under regular monitoring and was expected to make it for the Sri Lanka series. However, it is now confirmed that he will not recover fully for the series that starts tomorrow.

“Mr. Jadhav suffered a left hamstring injury during training on Friday, December 9 and will undergo scans. The BCCI Medical Team will continue to monitor him,” read the BCCI press release.

While India are expected to play Manish Pandey in his place, Washington Sundar has been called in as his replacement in the squad by the All-India Senior Selection Committee, as per the release. The Tamil Nadu youngster has been exceptional since his Indian Premier League debut earlier this year.

Sundar’s impressive displays in the domestic cricket, where he finished as the highest run-getter and the second-highest wicket-taker in the Tamil Nadu Premier League, was already awarded by a place in the squad for the T20I series that is scheduled after this.

The former India Under-19 star was in the fray to make a cut to the squad for the home series against Australia but he missed out after failing to clear the Yo-Yo test. However, last week, he cleared the test at the National Cricket Academy, ensuring a senior international call-up. He was a part of a young Board President's XI team in the practice match against the visiting Australian side.
