Cheteshwar Pujara has lauded Virat Kohli’s remarkable fitness on the field, stating how his disciplined life should be an inspiration for younger players all across the globe. Kohli’s Test teammate also shed light on the importance of being fit in modern cricket and how it has helped him.

Kohli has created a brand for himself owing to his strict fitness regime. His drive on the field has been infectious, not only for his teammates but also for the people watching him. His never-say-die attitude and supreme athleticism have made him synonymous with the new Men in Blue mindset.

Cheteshwar Pujara, Kohli’s teammate in the longer format, was all praise about it in an interview with NDTV. Expressing how Kohli’s discipline and integrity has won him admirers across the world, Pujara said, “Virat is someone who leads from the front. His work ethics are really remarkable. The youngsters learn from him. Not just in India, the players across the world try to learn from his success mantra.”

The 28-year-old is definitely the sharpest in the field among all the players, which is reflective of his lightning speed singles and animal instinct while fielding. And his positive energy is rubbed off on Pujara as well.

“Fitness is very important nowadays. I have been training since one-and-a-half years, and it has helped me in becoming a better player. I recover better (from match fatigue) The game is moving forward. All the guys in the team are aware of their fitness and want to improve. If you keep working hard on your fitness, your score gets better," Pujara added.

Though the interviewer tried to coy on Pujara by asking who has been a better captain - MS Dhoni or Kohli - the 29-year-old kept it diplomatic.

“Both captains wanted the Indian team to win. I have enjoyed playing under MS Dhoni and since Virat has taken over, I am enjoying my cricket with him too,” Pujara said.

Pujara and Kohli will take the field together in the Test series against Sri Lanka next, which starts on November 16 with the first matches scheduled at the Eden Gardens.
