India vs South Africa | Indian bowlers have done tremendous job, says Bharat Arun
Bharat Arun has expressed his happiness over the Indian bowlers’ performance on the South African soil as he stated that they have done a terrific job and he cannot ask for anything more. The Indian bowling coach also reserved special praise for Jasprit Bumrah calling him the pick of the bowlers.
Ahead of the start of the India-South Africa series, everyone was expecting a brilliant performance from the Indian batting order considering their form and depth. It seemed that Team India has the side required to break the deadlock of winning their first-ever Test series in South Africa but they managed to end the series 1-2 after losing the first two matches. In the series, apart from Virat Kohli's effort and Hardik Pandya's 93-run knock, it was the Indian bowlers who stole the limelight with their effort. In the three-match Test series, the Indian bowling department, especially the pace attack, impressed all with their performance throughout the series as they managed to capture all 60 wickets. The performance of the bowlers did not stop there though as they carried on troubling the South Africans in the ODIs claiming 28 out of the 30 wickets en route to a 3-0 lead in the six-match series.
"Cannot ask for anything better, they have done a tremendous job. Must say I am more than pleased," India's bowling coach ahead of the fourth ODI as quoted by TOI.
The tour has become a special one for Bumrah who received his debut cap in the first Test of the series in Cape Town where he ended the game with four wickets including 3/39 in South Africa’s second innings. He got the chance to feature in the all three five-dayers and ended the Test series with 12 wickets including 5/54 in Johannesburg which played a crucial role in India’s win. Before working together in the Indian cricket team, Arun had worked with most of the Indian bowlers at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and the Indian bowling coach utilizing that experience in giving strength to the current bowling attack.
"We had made a conscious decision that we will play Bumrah (in SA). So, we deliberately kept him out of the Test matches against Sri Lanka. He was at the NCA working on his fitness and strength because we knew the workload in South Africa was going to be pretty high. We prepared him accordingly and I think he was the pick of the bowlers," Arun said.
