I had to work hard for the shots that look easy now, says Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma has said that all his delicious pull shots for sixes came off only after he kept practicing them, stating that he really works hard on them in the nets. The Indian team is on a roll with wins in all the matches they have played until now in the 2018 Asia Cup.
India await the other finalist, which would be decided after the encounter of Pakistan and Bangladesh on Wednesday, following their comprehensive win over Pakistan yet again on Sunday. Leading the side was skipper Rohit Sharma, whose unbeaten 111 was enough to take India past the paltry target of 238 given by Pakistan.
The Indian skipper has been in scintillating form in the Asia Cup aggregate 269 runs in four matches so four with a whopping average of 134. His innings yesterday saw the opener hit seven fours and four sixes, and Sharma stated that he had to work really hard to perfect the now easy looking shots..
“Nothing is easy [talking about the pulls for six]. I have really worked hard on those kind of shots. When it comes off it really looks nice and I’ve gotten out a few times playing such shots.
“I back myself to play those shots. It’s important to put pressure on bowlers. They have one of the great bowling attacks. Taking nothing away from their bowling and they have troubled us in the past” Rohit said to PTI.
The Indian skipper was also all praise for the Indian bowling unit and commended them for their well execution of plans. The bowlers were aggressive in their approach in scalping 35 of the 40 wickets on offer in the series so far. Pakistan’s two consecutive defeats against India have largely been for their efficiency and the captain was all praise for them..
“The entire bowling unit stuck to their task and hats off to them. Repeated performances are challenging in these conditions and I don’t want to take any credit away from bowlers,” said Rohit.
India have relied on the duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar for their pace battery in the absence of Hardik Pandya, who was injured in the first match against Pakistan. And they have never let the void affect the team with both scalping 13 wickets in four matches.
“I think he’s matured as a bowler now, played great amount of cricket and he understands his bowling. I think that’s very very important for any individual; Bumrah understands what fields he needs to set and knows how to keep it tight. Bhuvi also did the same,” the skipper added.
