Virender Sehwag has backed the inclusion of cricket in the Olympic Games and believes that the T10 format will be ideal for the Games. He justified his decision by stating that more nations could play the new shorter format as one bowler or one batsman would be enough for a team to win a game.

The T20 format came in as a saviour for cricket - a sport being troubled by lowering crowds in Tests and ODIs. It captivated the world's attention and has taken the sport to more audiences than ever before. T20 changed the scenario of world cricket with its high entertainment dose in a shorter span of time which was immediately accepted by the fans.

Now with the chance of getting the Gentleman's game to the Olympics, the ICC have the perfect brand available at their disposal. However, Sehwag has suggested that the T10 format would be perfect to stage this game on the major platform.

"I think (if) we are talking about (the fact) that cricket should be a part of the Olympics, I think T10 is the right format. Because it gets over in 90 minutes and it's like a football match and a result will come. So I think, this is the right format, if ICC is thinking about talking to the (International) Olympic Association (Committee) that cricket should be part of that (the Olympics)," the former India opener said at an event as quoted by PTI.

T10 League is an upcoming first ever T10 cricket league based in the United Arab Emirates. Sehwag will be captaining Maratha Arabians team, which will feature in the T10 Cricket League to be played from December 14-17 in the UAE. According to Sehwag, a ten-over format would be ideal if the International Cricket Council (ICC) wants to have the sport included in the Olympics and the 39-year-old, who known for his devastating batting, also claimed that other nation can also participate in the game as only one or two outstanding players would help teams win in the new format.

"(I back it) because more nations can play T10 and one batsman or one bowler can win you the game. So every country can produce one or two players who can win the T10 matches.

"Now the ICC (International Cricket Council) has to think if they want to take this to (International) Olympic Association (Committee) or not. All the nations, who are smaller nations, who are playing four-day (games), Test matches, One-Day (matches) or T20, they can play T10 and cricket can be part of Olympic as well," added Sehwag.
