While many may not be aware of this statistic, Steve Smith has been the most successful IPL skipper of all-time as far as winning percentage is concerned. While Rohit Sharma comes next on the list, MS Dhoni sits behind Cameron White and Sachin Tendulkar as the most successful skipper in the league.

As the skipper of the CSK, Dhoni led the franchise to unimaginable heights by helping them reach all 8 playoffs, 4 finals, 2 titles - the one constant in the ever-altering IPL landscape. Until Mumbai Indians, under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, led the team to the franchise’s third title, Chennai Super Kings were the most successful team in the league, which had led to the common perception that Dhoni has been the most successful skipper in the history of the league, but actually, he isn’t.

Rising Pune Supergiant skipper Smith leads the list with 16 wins in 24 games at a win rate of 66.67% and Rohit Sharma has 45 wins in 75 games with a winning percentage of 60%. Interestingly, Sachin Tendulkar sits third on the list with 30 wins from 51 games at a percentage of 58.82.

Dhoni finds a place on the fifth spot behind Australian Cameron White, who led now-defunct Hyderabad Deccan Chargers to 7 wins from 12 games at a rate of 58.33%. Dhoni, who led two IPL teams over nine years, has 83 wins from 143 games at 58.04.
