The plan against Kohli worked out, says Nuwan Pradeep
Sri Lanka pacer Nuwan Pradeep was delighted after getting the wicket of Indian skipper Virat Kohli and revealed that they made a plan for this important scalp. Although he ended with 6/132, he admitted that many of their plans failed to work out and allowed India to post a huge match-winning total.
India posted a mammoth 600 runs in the first innings of the first Test against Sri Lanka. Nuwan Pradeep’s performance was the only positive for the Sri Lankan team as the 30-year-old took six wickets and helped his team wrap up the Indian innings. The pacer expressed his happiness as he got the most important wicket of star performer Kohli.
"Kohli is one of the best batsmen in the world. I am very happy to have got him out like that. For a batsman like him, we plan a lot. It was one of our plans that worked against him, and I’m really happy about that," he said after day two as reported by PTI.
Pradeep sent the Indian captain back when he was on just 3. The Sri Lankan has played 24 Tests and 23 ODIs for his country and earned the first five-wicket haul in the longer format yesterday. During Sri Lanka’s bowling, he tried to change his lengths and kept hitting the deck hard which resulted in wickets.
"It is special. But I didn't start well. I got some rhythm as I kept bowling more and more overs.
"We came to the match with a plan. But the way the match went and given the state of the pitch, we had to change our plans. Some of the things we did didn't do well. I did as well as I could."
"Because I took four wickets a lot of times and missed out on the fifth, today was the day that I worked out how to get a five-wicket haul. When you get four wickets, you have to bowl 15/16 overs, and you're very tired after that. If you're bowling more than that you still have to maintain that intensity and still bowl quickly. Apart from Pradeep, on the whole, the home side's bowling was not up to the mark as the Indian batsmen ran amok on a friendly pitch. After the batsmen, the bowlers took their responsibility as they sent five Sri Lankan batsmen back to the dressing room at the end of the second day’s play.
