Yuvraj Singh feels SRH's inability to restrict the run flow cost them the match
Yuvraj Singh, who played a splendid 70-run knock, pinpointed the number of runs his side leaked and the failure to pick up crucial wickets in the middle overs as the reason for SRH's loss against DD yesterday. The home side, eventually, secured the win by six wickets with five balls to spare.
Sunrisers Hyderabad lost again away from home after the Delhi batsmen successfully and easily chased down the target of 187 in the last over. The win marked the end of a 5-loss losing streak for the Delhi side who kept their hopes of featuring in the playoffs alive.
All the Delhi batsmen contributed to the team's cause as four of the top 5 players scored over 30 runs, at a strike rate of above a run a ball, to guide their side over the finishing line.
"I think we gave a lot of runs in the first six overs. The dropped catch (of Karun Nair) was crucial. If we could have taken early wickets, would have been key. It wasn't a great start by our bowlers and we did not pick wickets in the middle. All of their guys got 30-40 runs," Yuvraj told TOI.
The absence of Ashish Nehra who has been economical in the tournament seemed to hurt the SRH side and the Punjabi lad brought that to the notice of the media.
"We have been relying a lot on Bhuvi (Bhuvneshwar Kumar) and Rashid (Khan). When Ashish (Nehra) is fully fit, it will make our bowling line up a lot more stronger. Mohammed Siraj is a young guy while it has been a huge learning curve for Siddharth Kaul. Both have been bowling well," he added.
Yuvraj spoke about how he paced his innings in some challenging circumstances which got him some important runs under his belt.
"It was important for me to get some runs. In the last three to four innings, I did not get enough time in the middle. When we were batting in the first innings, it was a bit tough as the ball was gripping. So, I thought of playing till the last and went for the big shots after the 16th over," Yuvraj said.
"I was lucky, I got dropped. I could cash in on it in the later overs."
