Parthiv Patel has acknowledged that his Mumbai Indians side were under pressure after Tiwary hit Mitchell Johnson for a boundary on the first ball off the last over. Despite the boundary though Johnson came back well to earn Mumbai a one-run win over Pune and Patel lauded his efforts.

Mitchell Johnson was Mumbai’s hero in the final as he kept his nerve to bowl a tight last over in the final of IPL 2017 against Rising Pune Supergiant last night in Hyderabad. On a difficult wicket, Mumbai managed to score 129 in the first innings, but a brilliant bowling effort from Mumbai, capped by Johnson’s final over ensured that Rohit Sharma and his side lifted their third IPL title.

However, even the Australian did not have it easy in the initial stages of the final over.

Needing 11 to win in the final over, Manoj Tiwary crashed the Australian for a boundary to give Pune hope and Patel admitted that this put pressure on Mumbai. Iplt20 quoted Patel as saying, “We were definitely under pressure after Tiwary had hit the first ball for four. But that’s where I think experience comes in (to play).”

But Johnson came back strong taking consecutive wickets of both Tiwary and Pune skipper Steve Smith and Mumbai’s wicket keeper acknowledged his efforts. “It was brilliant (cricket). Mitchell Johnson has been bowling really well. With a couple of wickets (Tiwary and Smith were dismissed off successive balls), the game came (turned) in our favor.”
