Moeen Ali has moved on from controversial Tim Paine stumping

Moeen Ali is not worried about the stumping decision that cost him his wicket and stated that it depended on the perspective with which you see that. Ali also stated that England had let themselves down with the bat on Sunday and that eventually resulted in Australia going 1-0 up in the series.

In the second innings of the first Ashes Test, Moeen Ali was given out in controversial fashion when a Nathan Lyon delivery ripped past the edge of his lunging defence with Tim Paine whipping the bails off. After taking angles from both sides of the wicket and from the stump camera, third umpire Chris Gaffeney decided to rule Moeen out despite his back foot seemed to be slightly behind the line. That left the cricket pundits divided, but Moeen, with his zen-like composure, admitted that he is unconcerned by the same.

'If I was bowling I would want it out. It depends on what angle you look at it from. You've got to respect the umpire's call there, and what he saw. You've just to got to move on,” Moeen said.

“I thought I was alright, personally. The replay did look very tight. But I'm disappointed with myself really that I got out in that fashion, especially because me and Jonny were building a good partnership.”

England had begun the day four on 33 for 2 but lost three wickets in the first session, including that of captain Joe Root just before lunch, which put Australia on top. Despite a brief counter-attack from Moeen and Jonny Bairstow, England's lower order were blown away by the hostility of the home side's attack, losing their last five wickets for 40 runs. It left Australia with a target of 170 to win, which they chased down without losing any wickets.

"The first three days, we were in the game but we let ourselves down with the bat in the second innings especially. We got in but never went on to get the big score that we needed. The wicket was still good. We haven't got a hundred this game. We will try to put a dent in Australia for the next game."

"With the bat, we had a couple of big partnerships but the run out of James Vince [in the first innings] was a big one and when we had them 80 for 4, we never quite got the wicket. Steve Smith was the big difference in both line-ups and without him, they would have struggled to get anywhere near 300. Them two are the big situations in the game that we regret.

"First innings, we got 300 without Cooky and Rooty scoring runs. It's always difficult to take positives but the new guys in the team played well. Looking forward, we feel Australia are a good side but probably not as good as we make out. We know we can compete and we are going to have to compete very well in the next four games."
