India vs Australia | Aaron Finch set to miss first ODI in Chennai
Australian opener Aaron Finch is almost certain to miss the first ODI against India after his injured calf pulled up sore during the training session in Chennai. Australia may include Travis Head or Hilton Cartwright for the Chennai ODI, on Sunday, should Finch fail to regain his fitness by then.
The first match of the limited over series will be played on September 17 and Australia is likely to miss the services of Finch as he is suffering from the calf problem. Reports had suggested that the opener had suffered a calf injury because of which he would miss the warm up match against the Indian Board President's XI, but would be ready for the opening match in Chepauk. However, the condition of his right calf deteriorated during Australia’s warm-up session at the Chepauk Stadium on Thursday which, as reported by Cricet.com.au, forced him to ice the muscle for a majority of the session. Finch had initially suffered this injury six weeks ago while playing for Surrey in England.
In the absence of Finch, uncapped all-rounder Hilton Cartwright opened the innings with David Warner but was dismissed on the second ball without opening his account.
"Hopefully he's the one that can do it," Saker said on Wednesday before Finch aggravated his calf as quoted by cricket.com.au.
"He just seems to keep getting better every time he plays for Australia, so that's a real positive.
"His training ethic is as good as you'd get so it's a good reward for him."
