India and Chennai Super Kings batsman Kedar Jadhav has been ruled out of the IPL due to a hamstring injury which he suffered in the first game against Mumbai Indians. CSK’s batting coach Michael Hussey has termed it as a ‘big loss’ as Jadhav was a key member of CSK’s middle-order.

After a wonderful and thrilling win in the first game of this year’s IPL, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have been dealt with a big blow as Kedar Jadhav has sustained a grade 2 hamstring tear. Jadhav was the man who took CSK home in the last over by hitting a six and a four.

In the first game, Jadhav batted at No. 4 and saw a heap of wickets fall around him. But he stuck together with Dwayne Bravo trying to resurrect the chase but in the 13th over (when he was batting on 14), he started having problems with his hamstring. He was forced to retire as the injury was worse than it looked.

After Bravo’s heroics, the Pune-born batsman walked out to bat after the former’s dismissal. With just one wicket in hand and 7 runs to get in the final over, Jadhav played 3 dot balls before smashing a six and a four to seal the game for CSK.

After the game, Jadhav in an interview (post-match ceremony), revealed that he would be out of action for atleast a couple of weeks.

“I might not play for the next couple of weeks. I could not run and I told Immy (Imran Tahir) I will take all six balls (in the final over). With six balls and seven runs, they were bowling same lengths and I just needed a big hit, (Imran Tahir) I will take all six balls (in the final over). With six balls and seven runs, they were bowling same lengths and I just needed a big hit,” Jadhav had told the official broadcaster Star Sports after the game.

However, on April 9 (Monday), it was confirmed that Jadhav would miss the remainder of the IPL due to that hamstring injury. Michael Hussey, CSK’s batting coach was gutted with the 33-year-old’s loss.

“Big loss for us, very key player for us in the middle order,” Hussey was quoted saying by Cricbuzz.

CSK are yet to name a replacement for Jadhav. They have also not named any replacement for Mitchell Santner who was earlier ruled out of the IPL with a knee injury.
