Prithvi Shaw continued to impress as he struck a magnificent six off former Australian fast bowler Mitchell Johnson which was quite similar to MS Dhoni’s iconic helicopter shot. That six came in the 9th over as he whipped an overpitched delivery over mid-wicket for a fabulous six.

Prithvi Shaw has been very impressive in his short career. He’s already scored 5 hundreds and 4 fifties in his 10-match first-class career thus far apart from leading India to the Under-19 World Cup title earlier this year and has earned praise from all around the world for his batting talent. He was picked by the Delhi Daredevils for a sum of 1.2 crores in the auction this year and although he didn’t play the first five games, he made his debut in DD’s last game against Kings XI Punjab. The 18-year-old struck an eye-catching 22 in 10 balls which meant that he was allowed to retain his place in the side for the KKR game. 

In today’s game against Kolkata Knight Riders, it was a fresh beginning for Delhi Daredevils under new skipper Shreyas Iyer. Put into bat first by KKR, DD got off to a great start as Colin Munro and Prithvi Shaw added 59 runs for the opening stand. The Mumbai teenager looked in sublime touch and his timing and placement was spot on scoring 25 in 21 balls in the powerplay overs. 

But his moment of brilliance came in the 9th over when he struck a magnificent MS Dhoni-esque helicopter shot off Mitchell Johnson. In the former Aussie pacer’s first over, Shaw had already struck a boundary and he followed it up with another one in his next over. But it was the six off the very next delivery that caught everyone’s eye. 

Johnson bowled a length delivery on the stumps and Shaw nonchalantly whipped it over mid-wicket for a magnificent six. The follow-through of that shot was very similar to that of MS Dhoni’s helicopter shot. It was a fantastic shot from the 18-year-old as he tried to replicate the former Indian skipper’s trademark stroke.
