The ICC has stepped up efforts to curb disorderly attitude from players on the field and maintain a code of conduct during domestic and international matches. However, Sohail Tanvir might not have received the memo as he showed Ben Cutting 'the finger' during a CPL match yesterday.

The ICC has been pushing for cricketers to follow a certain protocol on the field, as they are in the public eye and will impact viewers everywhere with their actions. The ICC committee headed by Anil Kumble recently met in Mumbai to improve player behaviour and the development of a culture of respect.

But Sohail Tanvir seemed to be unaware of this as he crossed the line in yesterday’s CPL match between St Kitts Nevis and Patriots, and Guyana Amazon Warriors in the second game of the tournament. Tanvir, who was hit out of the park by Australian all-rounder Ben Cutting on the first ball, clean bowled the Aussie on the next delivery. However, the pacer’s actions post Cutting’s dismissal was not appropriate on such a big stage. Tanvir appeared to show the middle-finger to the Australian as the latter walked back towards the pavilion and is likely to be fined by the match referee for breaching the code of conduct.

It was the Warriors who won the game due to the efforts of Shimron Hetmyer’s innings,  Hetmyer remained unbeaten on 79 off just 45 balls as Chris Gayle’s 86-run knock for Patriots went in vain. Both of them were the standout performers for their respective teams but the young left-hander earned the patriots their first win for the season.
