Cricket rules can sometimes be very harsh and a silly mistake results in harsh penalties every now and then. The best example of the same was on show today when Mushfiqur Rahim dived to save a ball from going to the boundary, but umpire gave five extra runs to Windies as the ball hit Rahim’s helmet.

How great a player one could be, every now and then, he will disappoint. Mushfiqur Rahim’s contribution to the development of Bangladesh cricket is absolutely brilliant, but if you just have to find the one player who has given maximum moments that they would want to forget, Rahim again would top the chart. Be it several premature celebrations, or various wicket-keeping blunders - Rahim is the man for all the embarrassing moments of Bangladesh cricket.

It was once again on the show today. He was going well and strong behind the stumps until the mess-up took place in the 29th over of the Windies innings. Mohammad Saifuddin bowled a slow off-cutter which came back to Roston Chase sharply who got beaten on the inside edge. The ball was a fine exhibition of keeping it slow, but Rahim hardly expected that.

Chase, after getting the edge on the bat, saw the ball going down leg and had there not been Rahim’s dive to his left, it would have gone for a four. Rahim’s stride helped Bangladesh avoid that, but he actually made a grave error on the same delivery. He fumbled while collecting the ball and after the ball moved past him and hit his helmet that he had placed behind him.

Had he missed it, he would have conceded only four runs, but now, the mistake resulted in the visitors awarding with five penalty runs. Although it didn’t affect the eventual result, it gave a chance to meme-makers to troll Rahim again.
