India vs Australia | We will continue with our plan of taking early wickets, reveals Mitchell Starc
Mitchell Starc has revealed that getting early wickets and putting pressure on the Indian middle-order was their plan all throughout the first two matches and they will continue with the ploy. Indian openers Murali Vijay and KL Rahul struggled to make runs in the first two matches of the series.
Rahul and Vijay have failed to score even a single-half century in the first two matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Revealing that it was their ploy to take early wickets and put pressure on the Indian middle-order, Mitchell Starc has stated that they explore the same option in coming matches too.
The team comprising the likes of skipper Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane, though the middle order has made some runs so far in the series, they failed to chase 287 runs target in the second Test match at the Optus Stadium which India went on to lose by 146 runs.
“That’s our plan we want to take early wickets and get stuck in that middle order with the new ball. That’s still our plan going forward. We will see if they make any changes to the top order. “There is always pressure on anyone at any given time for both teams. We will just try to take early wickets and put that pressure back on them. Both Murali Vijay and KL Rahul have scored some big runs for India in Australia before, so you cannot take them lightly. For us it is about trying to keep their scores low and trying to get stuck in that middle order as early as we can,” he added.
Starc also went on to praise the Indian skipper Virat Kohli who put up 123 runs on the board in tough playing conditions. But also added that against Kohli he will look to bowl on a consistent line and length to him.
“Virat batted really well I thought. Like all really good batsmen he has certain strengths and if you bowl in those areas, he will simply put you away probably nine out of ten times. For us,
