India vs Australia | Happy to contribute to team’s success, expresses Jasprit Bumrah

After winning the Man of the Match award in the third Test match at the MCG against Australia, Jasprit Bumrah has mentioned that he is really happy as his performance helped the team in the victory. The Gujarat pacer picked up six in the first and three in the second innings of the Boxing Day Test. 

The visiting Indian team defeated Australia by a margin of 137 runs in the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne and take an unassailable 2-1 lead in the four-match Test series Down Under. Bumrah played a crucial role in this win for the Indian team as the pacer picked up a total of nine wickets while the Indian pace trio claimed 15 total wickets among themselves in the game.  

The 25-year-old Gujarat pacer made his debut for India in 2016 in ODIs against Australia but had to wait for a couple of years before getting a Test call-up earlier this year against the Proteas in Cape Town Test. He was delighted to receive the Man of the Match award after his match-winning performance in his ninth Test.

“It is a great feeling. Be it the Boxing day, be it the any other day, I always wanted to play Test cricket and I made my debut against South Africa in January this year. I made my (ODI) debut against Australia in 2016, so to play Test cricket here was a big deal for me. I am really happy to contribute to the team's success,” Bumrah said at the presentation ceremony.

The figures of 9/86 for Bumrah is the best performance by an Indian pacer in Australia as he broke the record of 8/109 by Kapil Dev in the year 1985. Making his debut earlier this year, Bumrah has scalped 48 wickets so far in his Test career as he played matches in South Africa, England and Australia in his debut year in white clothes. He will aim to start the next year on a good note from the Sydney Test against the Aussies.

“My aim is to always focus on consistency. We train very hard and we are used to bowling a lot of overs in Ranji Cricket, so the body is doing well. My focus is on the next Test now. It was always a dream to play Test cricket and I was really happy when I debuted in South Africa. I started learning slowly, in England it was a different experience. Coming to Australia has been a different experience as well. The start has been good, and hopefully, I will keep getting better,” the pacer concluded.
