U-19 World Cup: India hammer Zimbabwe by 10 wickets
India topped group B after defeating Zimbabwe by 10 wickets in the ongoing 2018 U-19 World Cup tournament in Mount Maunganui, New Zealand. The Colts registered their second consecutive 10 wicket victory in the tournament as they continued their unbeaten streak in the group stages of the tournament.
India played their final group stage match of the U-19 World Cup against Zimbabwe at the Bay Oval on Friday. They made two changes to the side by bringing in Harvik Desai in place of Aryan Juyal and Riyan Parag in place of Himanshu Rana, with an eye to check the bench strength of the team with qualification to the next round almost guaranteed.
Zimbabwe opted to bat first and were bundled for a mere 154 runs in 48.1 overs as India's bowling attack continued their fierce form. The pick of the bowlers was Anukul Roy, who finished the first innings with a figure of 4/20 in 7.1 overs. He was well supported by Arshdeep Singh and Abhishek Sharma who finished the match by chipping two wickets each.
Zimbabwe batsmen could not convert their starts into a big score as Milton Shumba's 36 remained their highest individual knock. The three-time U-19 World Cup champions made some changes in their batting line up too, with newcomer Harvik Desai asked to open with Shubham Gill in place of the mercurial Prithvi Shaw.
Desai, despite having a nervy start to his innings as he could not open his account for the first 14 balls, fared well as soon as he got his opening runs with a boundary. His partner, Shubham Gill, was far more comfortable in the middle as he posted his second half-century in the tournament. Both the batsmen remained unbeaten scoring 56 and 90 runs respectively as they guided India to a 10 wicket victory.
India U-19 play Bangladesh U-19 next on January 26 in the fourth Super League quarterfinal.
