VIDEO | MS Dhoni outwits Joe Root in typical style despite fumbling TWICE
MS Dhoni and his stumpings have been a part of the Indian folklore and it was only matter of time that England would witness the same magic. Today, despite fumbling a Kuldeep Yadav delivery twice, MS Dhoni still had all the times in the world to dislodge Joe Root’s bails to break England’s back.
England appeared to be on their to a fantastic total after being asked to bat first with Jos Buttler being the architect of the same. Given the form that he now finds himself in, he just needed someone to give him the strike and he could complete "the English job". However, apart from Jason Roy in the opening partnership, none was able to stand aloft and it was down to either of Eoin Morgan and Joe Root to build a steady partnership with Buttler.
However, it was also the time that the mutual help society of MS Dhoni and Kuldeep Yadav decided to unleash their magic. Kuldeep, who has the best strike rate among all bowlers - who have played a minimum of 10 matches - in the T20Is since the 2016 T20 World Cup, bowled the googlies to sublime effect and MS Dhoni was all ready to uproot the stumps when needed.
However, the one that Kuldeep bowled to Root was the testament of the fact that there is no one in the world like Dhoni behind the stumps - especially when keeping to the spinners. Kuldeep’s googly missed Root’s bat altogether and due to the variable bounce of the surface, it rose on to Dhoni, and eventually, it popped out of the Indian wicket-keeper’s gloves. The ball ended up in the grill of the Indian wicketkeeper. However, Dhoni managed to retrieve it and flick the bails before Root could make his crease.
If that was an absolute Dhoni moment to savour, Jonny Bairstow also suffered the same on Kuldeep's previous delivery. The flight generated by the Indian wrist-spinner made Bairstow stretch forward in defence, but the ball actually turned away from his outside edge. Bairstow was completely clueless about the googly as he was reaching out, he was unbalanced and was drawn out of the crease, which was enough for MS Dhoni to whip off the bails.
