VIDEO | Kuldeep Yadav goes against “Dhoni Review System”; costs India a review

One of the reasons Indian wrist spinners have been so successful is MS Dhoni and his guidance behind the stumps. However, today, Kuldeep Yadav decided to trust his instinct rather than Dhoni and as it panned out, as is the case more often than not, the latter was right in his assessment.

Eoin Morgan and Alex Hales were trusted with the responsibility of guiding England to victory, but they still had to overcome the challenge posed by the duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal. To their dismay, Kuldeep was successful in getting to pitch the ball up, which resulted in the ball hitting the pad continuously.

On the fifth ball of the 10th over, Kuldeep bowled a quicker ball to Hales that ended up as a full toss. Hales was ready to make that count as he went down to his knees to play the sweep, but he was beaten by the pace as the ball struck his pads. While on the first look, it seemed like the impact was outside leg, Kuldeep appealed for the wicket, which was duly denied by the umpire.

However, Kuldeep was adamant that it struck on the pads in front of the stumps and convinced Virat Kohli to go for the review. But, MS Dhoni didn’t seem that confident about the impact and even signalled that the impact might have been outside the line of the stumps. The replays suggested that not only was MS Dhoni right but the result was also that India had lost their only review.
