Despite being one of the world’s oldest sports, Cricket has never seized to amaze people with the rarest of occurrences on field. India’s Anuja Patil saw herself amidst one such instance on Sunday when the third umpire adjudged her out for obstructing field after the soft signal went her way.

Bangladesh Women’s side has already carved their own history in the ongoing Womens Asia Cup tournament by beating Pakistan fand then inflicting India’s first ever Asia Cup defeat in the earlier stages. And the way they have started the final match gives enough indication that they could all the way.

On a day when the Indian eves needed luck on their side more than anything, they went off to a horrendous start with Smriti Mandhana, Deepti Sharma and Mithali Raj returning to the pavilion after adding just 28 runs in eight overs. With skipper Harmanpreet Kaur holding steady from one end, she needed a partner at the other end. And given the way Patil lost her wicket, she was given a clear indication that it wasn’t just India’s day.

The incident happened in the ninth over when Kaur was facing Bangladesh’s Jahanara Alam. The good length ball was chopped towards the keeper leaving no room for a single whatsoever. However, Patil was seen hassling her way up front before Kaur signaled her to get back. Patil turned around with the Bangladeshi fielder having the ball in her hand and changed her direction on the pitch to obstruct the ball’s path of hitting the wicket.

The visitors appealed against the soft signal of not out as the ball didn’t hit the wicket. However, the third umpire, after having several replays, came to the decision that the batsman had changed her track after noticing the ball coming towards her. India women were eventually all out for 112.
