India vs Windies | Indian Premier League helped me develop, reveals Khaleel Ahmed

Indian pacer Khaleel Ahmed has stated that playing in the Indian Premier League helps young players as they constantly interact with the best in the business and get to know a lot of things beforehand. Ahmed has performed really well in the two T20 matches against the Windies held recently.

It has been a good year for the young Khaleel Ahmed as after making an impressive debut in the Asia Cup the left arm pacer has consistently managed to impress the critics. In a short career of six ODI matches the youngster has already picked eleven wickets at an average of 24. The pacer from Tonk has revealed that playing in the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) has helped him immensely.

“It’s a big help if you are a part of the IPL. You’re already sharing dressing rooms with a lot of international players and hence you’re constantly learning. So when you come into the Indian team, you have already (played like) a professional. You know how to correct your mistakes, which is why I feel IPL is a massive help,” said Khaleel on Tuesday.

Ahmed has fared pretty well for the National team so far, picking three wickets in two T20 matches. In the second match Ahmed asked his skipper for the new ball and picked two crucial wickets to push the visitors onto the back foot. Skipper Rohit Sharma was also all praise for the youngster.

“Khaleel swings the ball upfront and the new ball gives him a lot of confidence. He wants that new cherry as well. He’s taken up that challenge really well and it’s only helping us as a team,” India’s stand-in captain Rohit Sharma said after the match.

Ahmed also seems to be a quick learner and that factor seems to be a prime contributor to the fact that he has been promoted to the senior side without much experience at the domestic level. Ahmed as of now has played just two first class matches and he has an experience of 23 matches in the List A matches.

“Earlier, I used to focus on just bowling fast. But Zaheer bhai worked on my wrist position and I learnt how to swing the ball back into the right-handers. With Bhuvi, I learnt about death bowling,” he had said in an earlier interview.
