India vs West Indies | Jason Holder ruled out of series opener with sprained ankle

West Indies captain, Jason Holder, has been restricted to the sidelines for the first Test against India after it was revealed that he sprained his ankle during a practice game in Dubai last week. Kraigg Brathwaite will lead the side in his absence in the first Test match to be played in Rajkot.

India take on a formidable foe in the form of West Indies as the two teams begin a two-match Test series on Thursday. While Indian captain, Virat Kohli, will make his return to the national team after he was given a break from the Asia Cup, Caribbean captain - Jason Holder will have to settle for a spot on the bench due to fitness issues.

The West Indian all-rounder sprained his ankle during a practice game in Dubai some time last week because of which he wasn’t able to practice in the net sessions ahead of the series opener at Rajkot. Holder was named on the bench as Kraigg Brathwaite was promoted to the role of captain for the first Test.

"WI media manager says that Jason Holder had sprained his ankle during their practice game in Dubai itself. He didn't bowl in Baroda, opting to spend time batting there. But he did bowl in the nets the day before," Cricbuzz reported.

Holder will most likely take part in the second Test match in Hyderabad. Braithwaite, who has represented West Indies in a total of 49 Test matches, will take charge of the Caribbean outfit for the duration of the first match at Rajkot.
