Ahead of the series in Sri Lanka, the Indian women's cricket captain Mithali Raj has stated that the bilateral series will be helpful in preparations for the World T20 to be played later this year. The three-match series in the third round of ICC Women's Championship will begin from tomorrow.

The Indian women team will play three ODIs on September 11, 13 and 16 in Sri Lanka. The Indian side is in bottom four of the points table alongside Sri Lanka, West Indies, and South Africa in their race of qualifying for the World Cup to be held in 2021. Currently, New Zealand is leading the table followed by Australia, England and Pakistan.

India lost to Australia at home prior to this series and will hope to bounce back in the tournament in a bid to qualify for the World Cup.

“We will definitely play to our calibre and potential to help us gain maximum points from our series against Sri Lanka. We look forward to climb up the table and will work together as a team,” India captain Mithali Raj said, reported PTI.

“We have practised well for this series and this series will give us a great opportunity to prepare for the upcoming ICC Women’s World T20 in the West Indies.”

The first two matches will be played in Galle on Tuesday and Thursday respectively while the last ODI will take place at Katunayake.

Squad: Mithali Raj (C), Tanya Bhatia, Ekta Bisht, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Jhulan Goswami, Dayalan Hemalatha, Mansi Joshi, Harmanpreet Kaur, Veda Krishnamurthy Smriti Mandhana, Shikha Pandey, Punam Raut, Jemimah Rodrigues, Deepti Sharma, Poonam Yadav.
