India vs England | India retain top spot in ICC Test rankings despite 4-1 series loss

Despite an embarrassing 4-1 loss to England in the recently concluded five-match Test series, Team India retained their top spot in the updated list of the ICC Test team rankings. England, who began the series at fifth position with 97 points, gained 8 points and climbed to number four on the list.

India slumped to their 10th consecutive defeat in a Test series on English soil as Joe Root & Co. marched away to a 118-run victory in the fifth and final Test at The Oval. Alastair Cook was adjudged man of the match for his brilliant 71 and 147 in what was his final match of the series as England registered a 4-1 win over the Indian team.

Despite the crushing loss on foreign soil, team India managed to retain their top spot in the updated list of the ICC Test team rankings which was released by the International Cricket Council on Tuesday. India began the seriesĀ with 125 points but ended it with 115 points, but still maintain a nine-point lead over South Africa, who are placed at the second position in the rankings with 106 points.

England, on the other hand, began the five-match Test series at the fifth position with 97 points, ended up gaining eight points and climbed to the fourth position in the Rankings. Australia, who are on par with South Africa with 106 points, remained at number three in the rankings. Meanwhile, New Zealand dropped down to the fifth position and now trail the three lions by three points.

India are scheduled to play West Indies in the next Test series, with the first match scheduled to begin from October 4 at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot.
