IPL 2019 | Sam Curran says he was unaware of his hat-trick
Sam Curran has shared that he was unaware about his hat-trick during the game against Delhi Capitals as the first dismissal was in the 18th over and the next two were in the 20th. He also opened up about batting as an opener in Monday’s match, something which he had last done in school cricket.
Kings XI Punjab’s latest recruit Sam Curran was the hero of their match against Delhi Capitals as he scalped four wickets giving away 11 runs in just 2.2 overs. It was a match-winning spell which even included a hat-trick. The England all-rounder changed the whole complexion of the match as he first started with Colin Ingram’s wicket in the third ball of the 18th over, and then dismissed Harshal Patel for a duck in the final ball.
He continued his onslaught in the 20th over as he bowled over the tailenders Kagiso Rabada and Sandeep Lamichhane to bring an end to the epic collapse by DC batsmen.
"Someone just told me that I got a hat-trick; I didn't really know towards the end. The crowd actually got so loud, I couldn't hear myself think or anything like that, said Sam Curran, reported
"The boys were all out there helping me and Ash (Ravichandran Ashwin) just told me to do what I do and just try and focus on me and the batsman and nothing else. I nailed a few yorkers and we won."
The Shreyas Iyer-led side were cruising towards an easy win against KXIP as a set Rishabh Pant and Colin Ingram were at the crease, having crossed the half-century partnership mark. DC required 23 runs in 21 balls with seven wickets remaining. However, the pressure of chasing once again came to haunt them as Pant’s dismissal by Mohammad Shami triggered a flurry of wickets, thereby, they lost their next seven wickets in a span of eight balls, the spoils of which were shared by Shami with two dismissals, Curran with his four and a run out by skipper Ravichandran Ashwin, which sent Chris Morris back to the dressing room for a duck.
"Shami bowled two amazing overs at the end there, which helped as well,” stated the left-hander.
Chris Gayle was injured and Curran came to open the innings in his place. The Surrey all-rounder tried to take full advantage of the powerplay, as he smashed
"I have opened in school cricket, but I think that was the first time in professional cricket that I've opened the batting. I've been working on my batting a lot over the last few months,” he expressed
The Kings’ now have three wins in four matches and are comfortably placed
"I really enjoyed it and I'm sure Chris will be straight back in the side, but it's a great squad that we've got and hopefully we can keep winning games,” signed off Curran.
The KXIP will face Chennai Super Kings at MA Chidambaram Stadium in their next encounter on April 6.
