Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi slam Afghanistan Cricket Board after Asghar Afghan's sacking
Rashid Khan and Mohammed Nabi have stated that Asghar Afghan’s sacking as the skipper from all three formats of the game would disturb the momentum of the team. The Sunrisers Hyderabad duo has openly expressed their displeasure on Twitter and asked for sanity to prevail ahead of the World Cup.
Afghanistan Cricket Board sacked Asghar Afghan as the captain across the three formats of the game and appointed Gulbadin Naib, Rashid Khan and Rahmat Shah as the ODIs, T20Is and Test captains respectively. Along with that, the board has also appointed Rashid, Shafiqullah Shafiq and Hashmatullah Shahidi as vice-captains for ODIs, T20Is, and Test cricket respectively.
While the reason for Afghan’s sacking is not yet known, Rashid and Nabi didn’t take it lightly and hit back at the ACB. "With just months to go for such a mega event like World Cup, changing the captain will cause uncertainty and also team morale will be affected," Rashid, who was made the captain of T20Is in the revamp, said in a Tweet.
"With all the respect to the Selection Committee, I strongly disagree with the decision as it is irresponsible & bias(ed). As we have (the world cup) in front of us, Captain #MAsgharAfghan should remain as our team Captain. His captaincy is highly instrumental for team success," he further added.
Nabi has also shared the same sentiments as Rashid and insisted that the change has come in at the wrong time.
"Being a senior member of the side & having seen the rise of Afghanistan cricket, I don't think it's the right time to change the captain before the WC. The team has gelled really well under Ashgar & (I) personally feel he is the right man to lead us," said Nabi.
