The Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) has become the latest Ranji Trophy team to approach the former Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) coach Chandrakant Pandit to take up the coaching Job. Pandit has become the most in-demand coach after his midas touch took Vidarbha to consecutive Ranji wins.

Chandrakant Pandit has taken the teams he has coached to six Ranji Trophy finals and has won five of them. He started with three Ranji victories for Mumbai, before ending his contract as a runner-up in the 2016-17 edition. The VCA President Prashant Vaidya had then drafted him in as the head coach for his side for the 2017-18 edition.

Vidarbha was hardly a force to reckon with but the former India wicket-keeper changed their fortunes as he took them to two successive Ranji wins and even a victory in Irani Cup. His contract with the Faiz Fazal-led team ended on March 31, and since then, various teams had approached him as per reports. Now Baroda has become the latest side to approach him.

"It was informal but we are in talks with him," said a BCA source on Wednesday, reported TOI.

It was learnt that various VCA officials had requested the 57-year-old to extend the contract but maintained that he wanted a break from coaching assignments. "I have told VCA that I wanted to take a break from coaching assignments due to family commitments. But they have asked me to reconsider the decision," he had earlier said, reported Sportstar.

The former India player, who was a part of 5 Tests and 36 ODIs, has donned various hats post his career as a player. He had taken up administrative roles for Rajasthan, Kerala and Maharashtra and He even went on to become the head coach and chief selector of India’s U-19 team, where he had guided players like KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal.  It was under his guidance that a teenage Prithvi Shaw made his first Class debut in 2017.
