Ashes 2019 | Jofra Archer's confidence is exciting to see, says Joe Root
England captain Joe Root is confident about launching the debutant Jofra Archer in Test Cricket as the 24-year-old is a self-assured cricketer and Root believes he'll be an asset for the team in the 2nd Test. The Sussex speedster will get his first Test cap at Lord's on Wednesday.
Archer was incorporated into England's 12-man squad as a replacement for the injured James Anderson as England are looking forward to level the series which Australia is currently leading 1-0. The visitors, with the help of two remarkable centuries by Steve Smith, won the Edgbaston Test by 251-runs and it'll be important for the hosts to bounce back.
If selected in the playing XI, Archer will be making his Test debut at Lord's, the ground where he bowled the crucial Super Over in the World Cup final that brought home the biggest Trophy in Cricket.
"He (Archer) is certainly very confident and that's great to see in a young guy, as he should be after the World Cup," Root was quoted as saying by AFP at Lord's on Tuesday.
"And, as he made very clear, it's his preferred format so again I'm very excited to see at the start of his journey. If anything, it will motivate him and when he gets the chance he will be desperate to prove to everyone how good he is. That's what you want and he won't shy away from the challenge," added the England captain.
Archer's inclusion would give England an advantage as the Barbados-born quick can clock up above 90 miles per hour (145 kilometres per hour) with the ball.
