Rohit Sharma can break Brian Lara’s record of 400, predicts David Warner
David Warner, who was on track to break Brian Lara’s record of 400, was left stranded after Tim Paine’s declaration when the left-hander was batting on 335* in the second Test against Pakistan. Further, following his innings, the left-hander picked Rohit Sharma to break Lara’s record in the future.
David Warner believes that India’s Rohit Sharma could be the batsman to break the decade-old record of 400 runs in an innings set by the West Indian Brian Lara. After the left-handed was stranded on 335 by the Australian skipper, Warner believes that the record would be broken soon enough.
Lara set the record in 2004 when he scored 400*, in the Test match against England after having scored 500 runs in a First-Class game earlier. Warner, who was batting on 335 was on course to go past Lara's record before Tim Paine decided to declare the innings at 589/3, leaving the left-hander 65 short of the elusive record.
"Yeah, look, I think it's about the person himself. We've got long boundaries, it is quite difficult at times. When fatigue sets in, it's very hard to try hard and throw your hands at it. In the end, I tried to run twos to lift the ante because I couldn't actually think like I could clear the ropes,” Warner told 'Fox Sports'.
Further, the left-hander talked about Sharma’s chances of scoring 400 runs in the longest format. "I think, one day, if I've to name a player, I reckon it could be Rohit Sharma. Definitely,” he added.
Sharma’s second inning as the Test opener for India has led to success, with the right-hander scoring twin double-centuries against South Africa, eventually to be named as the ‘Man of the Series’ for his showing.
