Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has offered Cricket Australia (CA) to send the Australian team to Pakistan for a three-match Test series in 2022. Australia have not toured Pakistan since 1998 due to security reasons which forced Pakistan to host their home series at neutral venues like England and UAE.

Test cricket is set to return to Pakistan after the Sri Lankan cricket board was convinced of excellent security provided to their players in Pakistan and they agreed for a two-match Test series against the hosts starting December 11. As more time will pass, PCB is hopeful that other cricket boards around the world will increase their belief in Pakistan's security arrangements and will tour Pakistan more frequently. One such proposal is sent to CA where PCB CEO Wasim Khan confirmed that the Australian team may tour Pakistan for a Test series in 2022

“Cricket Australia has agreed in principle to play three Tests in Pakistan’s home series. Obviously, we are doing everything to ensure Australia agrees to play in Pakistan in 2022 and it is an ongoing process,” Khan told The Indian Express.

Khan also added that the PCB has proposed the Bangladesh Cricket Board for a Test series in Pakistan in January and are awaiting the response from the board.

“We have sent the itinerary and are awaiting a response. After Sri Lanka’s arrival to play the two Tests we don’t foresee any problems in the Bangladesh board agreeing to send their team in January,” he said.

With every passing day, the confidence of the PCB in hosting Tests is increasing and Khan also informed about the talks the PCB has had with cricket boards of Afghanistan, Ireland, and South Africa to send their cricket teams for a Test series either in 2020 or 2021. PCB is also planning to send their U19 and A teams to overseas tours which will help them gain enough experience and get a hang of the level of cricket at the international stage.

Khan also discarded the rumours of him being the most powerful person in PCB and going on a long holiday in Australia.

“They are issues which can’t be discussed or finalized on phone or mails. I will let everyone know why I went to Australia soon. And I am not the most powerful person in the board it is a wrong impression. Misbah-ul-Haq also does not take decisions unilaterally as head coach and chief selector,” Khan concluded.
