Mushtaq Ahmed appointed as Pakistan’s spin consultant
Pakistan Cricket Board have appointed Mushtaq Ahmed as the spin bowling consultant in a one year contract. The former cricketer will be working 120 days at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore and also be available for the national team, according to his contract with the board, when required.
As Test cricket returns to Pakistan, the Pakistan cricket side seem to be in a dire state having hammered by Australia Down Under while they are struggling currently against Sri Lanka at home. Having faced a lot of criticism lately, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is doing its best to get the team back on track as they have appointed Mushtaq Ahmed as their spin consultant.
While Ahmed’s first assignment will be to work with leggie Yasir Shah to groom him before the second Test match against Sri Lanka in Karachi, his main role will be to train the youngsters at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), Lahore. Shah, who is a 200 wickets Test veteran in his own right, has been out of form lately going for runs in South Africa as well as in Australia.
The PCB has confirmed that Shah has been released from the national team in Rawalpindi and will be training under Ahmed at the NCA.
“He will rejoin the team for the second Test in Karachi,” a PCB source said.
Ahmed will be training the U-16, U-19 and other domestic bowlers at the NCA for 120 days of the year according to his contract with the PCB. As and when required, he will be working with national team.
Ahmed is an experienced campaigner having worked with the West Indies cricket team as a spin consultant while he also worked as the bowling coach at the NCA. The former Pakistan leggie will play a pivotal role in the upbringing of upcoming spinners in the country having played 44 Test matches and 144 ODIs while scalping 185 and 66 wickets respectively.
