Nowhere near Virat Kohli’s level yet, asserts Babar Azam
Babar Azam is tired of being compared to Indian skipper Virat Kohli as he claims that he is nowhere near Kohli’s level despite impressing with the bat in recent months. Earlier, Pakistan coach Mickey Arthur stated that Azam will be one of the best batsmen in the world in the future.
Pakistan batsman Babar Azam has been in fine form of late having impressed in the recent tour of South Africa. The Pakistan batsman finished among the top three run-getters in the Test series, scoring 221 runs in three matches, including a couple of half-centuries. Azam was also one of the highest run scorers in the five-match ODI series having amassed a total of 216 runs against the Proteas.
His impressive display with the bat, have seen fans and critics compare him to Indian captain Virat Kohli. However, the 24-year-old right-hander said that he still has miles to go in order to reach the Indian superstar’s level.
“People keep comparing me to Virat Kohli. He is a very big player and I am not even close to him as of now. I have just started my career and he has already achieved a lot in his career. I have to reach that stage,” Karachi Kings’ Azam said during a PSL 2019 event.
Earlier, Pakistan head coach Mickey Arthur had said that Azam will go on to become one of the top batsmen in the near future. However, the South African admitted that he was a little too early to talk about comparisons with Kohli.
“I think he will be in the top five of the world very soon across all formats. I thought I was a bit quick off the gun when I said two years ago that he would be almost as good as Virat Kohli but it has taken him a while to show that class. But if you watched him in the nets couple of years ago, he was a young boy who has developed into a young man, he’s got stronger and fitter and his game
