Harmanpreet Kaur has been ruled out of the Indian squad for the upcoming limited overs series against England after sustaining an ankle injury. India is going to host England for three One Day International games from February 22 which will be followed by three T20Is from March 4.

It was like dealing with a severe blow for the Indian Women's Cricket Team before the all-important limited overs series against England as vice-captain Harmanpreet Kaur was ruled out due to an ankle injury which she sustained a couple of days ago during the pre-match training session. She will now be heading to Bengaluru for further treatment.

“Kaur was unable to participate fully in the team training session because of pain and will now head to NCA in Bengaluru for her rehab,” BCCI said in a press release.

Meanwhile, Himachal Pradesh all-rounder Harleen Deol, who made a 29-ball 21 in the warm-up match batting at No 4 for Board President’s XI against reigning World Champions England, is set to replace her in the squad. She was also handy with the ball as she bowled six overs of spin for 40 odd runs without taking a wicket.

Kaur’s injury, however, comes at the back of some indifferent performances with the bat as she scored 21 runs in the only match she got to bat in the ODI series and 24 runs in three T20Is combined on India’s recent tour of New Zealand.

The three-match ODI series against the touring English team is a part of the ICC Women’s Championship that determines automatic qualifiers for the next World Cup in 2021.

Indian women squad: Mithali Raj (Captain), Jhulan Goswami, Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, Deepti Sharma, Taniya Bhatia (wicket-keeper), R Kalpana (wicket-keeper), Mona Meshram, Ekta Bisht, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Poonam Yadav, Shikha Pandey, Mansi Joshi, Punam Raut, Harleen Deol.
