BCCI treasurer Anirudh Chaudhary has clarified that the board was yet to sign the MPA and hence have all the rights to decide should India play Pakistan in the World Cup. He has also added that there may be a provision to forfeit the match but the BCCI will be the sole decision-maker about it.

The Pulwama terror attack carried against CRPF Jawans created all disputation between India and Pakistan once again and that brought the relations between the countries to a difficult phase. Whether India face Pakistan in the upcoming World Cup or not has become a matter of discussion with the tournament scheduled to commence in less than a hundred days. Anirudh Chaudhary, however, has explained that BCCI reserves the authority to settle on a plan of action regarding the issue and recalled the meeting on June 22 2018, stating that the BCCI had not signed the Members Participation Agreement as yet.

“The BCCI had resolved at the Special General Meeting that the members participation agreement shall not be executed without the authorization of the general body of the BCCI and the BCCI reserves all its rights regarding the MPA and regarding its participation in any other multi-nation tournament or games not covered by the MPA,” he told the Hindustan Times.

The CoA has been the operating ascendancy of the BCCI but a state official elucidated that the CoA has powers to take decisions regarding administration only and that the committee was trying to intervene in the policies of the board. The ICC CEO Dave Richardson had mentioned that the International Cricket Council had not written to the boards (BCCI and PCB) regarding the situation and there has been no indication that the match shall not be played as planned.

“The India board reserves all rights regarding the MPA and that has been the consistent position of the BCCI. Therefore, the BCCI cannot be forced to even play in the World Cup. There may be some provision where if we do not play them in a match, they get the points. But as of now, the BCCI as an organization has not even given its authorization of the signing of the MPA and therefore it is free to lay down its conditions regarding Pakistan,” he clarified.
