BCCI wants to play with Pakistan but the government says no, opines Shoaib Akhtar
Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has remarked that the BCCI wants to play Pakistan in bilateral series but its the government interferes. He has also added that politics and sports should be kept separate under all circumstances and condemned the deaths of soldiers in the Pulwama attack.
The match between India and Pakistan in the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019 has been under the scanner following the Pulwama terror attack and the plans of organising bilateral series between two nations is also all but over Shoaib Akhtar mentioned that the BCCI wanted to hold a bilateral series between the two nations and surmised that the series would have brought revenue of 600 million dollars. He also said that the BCCI is being intervened by the government as the board falls directly under the supreme court and hence the hurdle.
"Honest reply, BCCI wants to play with Pakistan, the government says no. Had they played with Pakistan, Star Sports and BCCI would have earned the maximum revenue. Our Pakistan board had mentioned that they want to play a bilateral series and you cannot deny it although the series can be held at a different venue altogether. But they have said that they have a board to run which falls under Supreme Court. That is their argument and that is logical," opined Akhtar.
The former legendary fast-bowler has also condemned the loss of lives in the recently held terror attack. The Pulwama attack witnessed as much as 40 casualties when a suicide bomber attacked a convoy of vehicles carrying the CRPF personnel in the Jammu Srinagar National Highway.
However, Pakistan Prime Minister, Imran Khan Akhtar denied accusations on Pakistan and inculpated India for the political situation in a statement of retaliation. Akhtar upheld the statement and felt that sports should never be combined with politics and it is important, especially for the cricketers, to build a bridge to unite the people instead of antagonizing on the situation.
"Should sports stay political? Not at all. So these differences set in matters of circumstances. We strongly condemn the loss of lives. But when it comes to our country, we are one nation, united and we will stand by our Prime Minister's statement without having a second thought. They have a right to pull out. Their country was attacked and hence the decision. You cannot argue on that?",Akhtar was quoted as saying by the Times Now news.
