Ahead of the ODI series in Australia, Rohit Sharma has stated that not a single player is guaranteed for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup yet. The Indian vice-captain has also underlined the importance of MS Dhoni in the team saying that he brings a lot of calmness to the Indian side.

After the historic Test series win Down Under, the Indian team is all set to shift its focus towards the limited overs cricket. They will start to make plans for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup from the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia starting on Saturday in Sydney. The Indian team is scheduled to tour New Zealand for T20I and ODI series as well. They will try to get the team balance right ahead of the World Cup during these matches so that they will have a balanced side going into the World Cup starting from May 30.

“Nobody is guaranteed that (World Cup) flight to England as yet. We have to be in prime form. Each and every player who will be taking part in the World Cup is aware of the fact that we need to keep performing and make sure that we are ready for the World cup,” Sharma told the media ahead of the first ODI, reported ANI.

“There will be one or two changes keeping in mind form and injury concerns over the next few months. But I don’t see any drastic change in the squad. But I still feel everything will depend on the form of each player.”

The selectors have called up MS Dhoni for the ODI series after deciding to go without him during the T20Is in November. With people discussing Dhoni being in BCCI’s plans for the World Cup or not, Sharma has highlighted Dhoni’s contribution to the team saying that the former captain brings in a lot of calmness into the team and he is very helpful in taking crucial decisions as well.

“With him (Dhoni) being around, there is calmness around the group. It is also a bit of a help to the captain, also going down the batting order and that finishing touch is very important. He has finished so many games for us, that role he plays is very important in terms of his batting. So, things he does bring a lot on the table for us and his presence around the group is a massive factor for us,” the vice-captain explained.

"Chahal and Kuldeep are both doing really well so somebody like Dhoni standing behind the stumps and helping those guys about what the batsman is trying to do, it makes a huge difference I think. These guys started playing for India in 2017 and since then they have done really well in and outside India. And one of the reasons for that is MS and how he has guided these two guys in the middle about how to keep things tight and field placements. He has played a massive role ever since the time he has left captaincy.”
