Former Indian Test Cricketer Narendra Hirwani is set to work with the Indian Women's Cricket as a spin consultant, starting from September in the home series against South Africa. Hirwani, who is also currently the spin coach at the National Cricket Academy, will not take up a full-time role.

Former Indian International Narendra Hirwani is all set to work with the Indian Women's Cricket Team as a spin consultant. Hirwani, who is currently the spin coach at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), will not take up a full-time role with the team and is expected to be more of a part-time consultant due to his commitments with the NCA.

The women's cricket team boasts great spinners in the form of Deepti Sharma, Poonam Yadav and Ekta Bisht, and T20 skipper Harmanpreet Kaur also recently spoke about the necessity for a spin consultant in order to help them.

"It is not a full-time role since he is busy at the National Cricket Academy. He will travel with the team on and off. He also worked with them briefly during the team's recent camp at NCA," a BCCI official told PTI on Thursday.

Unlike the Men's Cricket team, the Indian Women's Cricket team do not have a separate batting coach, but with WV Raman serving as the head coach, the former Indian cricketer has taken it upon himself to guide the team with the bat.

However, several people, including the ones close to the team, believe that the team would benefit from having a fast-bowling coach. "Like the men's team, there should be a dedicated support staff for the women's team," a source close to the side was quoted as saying by news18.

But having represented India in 17 Tests and 18 ODIs, Hirwani's experience would be a welcome addition to the Indian Women's team.
