The Kapil Dev-led CAC, which also comprises former batsman and coach Anshuman Gaekwad and former women’s captain Shanta Rangaswamy, are reportedly aiming to appoint a coach with good man managing skills. The deadline for applying for coaching jobs in the Indian Cricket Team expires on Tuesday.

The three-member Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) panel which has been handed over the responsibility of picking the next head coach of the Indian team, are set to consider man-management skills as one of the main criteria in their quest to appoint the next coach. The deadline for applications expires on Tuesday, but Ravi Shastri, who is currently the coach of the Indian Cricket Team, along with his team, have been given an automatic entry in the recruitment process.

The applicants will be interviewed by the panel consisting of Kapil Dev, Anshuman Gaekwad, and Shanta Rangaswamy, and the trio will take a final call on the appointment. While it is widely reported that Shastri is a certainty to retain his job, recent developments on and off the field might get the panel think twice about their decision.

Gaekwad has now confirmed that the panel is looking for a coach with a good man-management ability to go along with good planning and technical skills.

“You have to be a good a man manager and a good planner. These are the two aspects which are most important. There are so many other aspects which you have to take into consideration," Gaekwad told Reuters by phone.

“Technical knowledge is obviously important because without that you can’t plan," he added.

Earlier, skipper Virat Kohli told reporters in his press conference that the whole team would be happy if Shastri continued as the coach. While he outrightly denied and rubbished the rumors of a potential rift with Rohit Sharma, it remains to be seen if the CAC are looking for a coach with good man-management skills in order to keep the off-field environment under check.

When asked if Kohli will be consulted before the coach was appointed, Gaekwad said that it wasn't compulsory for the panel to interact with the skipper and that they did not receive any intimation from BCCI regarding the same.

"We chose the women’s coach, we didn’t have any inputs from anyone. It’s not compulsory that we have to talk to them or not talk to them, either way," he said.

"It all depends on the BCCI ... We haven’t had a dialogue still with the BCCI, we have just been intimated. It’s a big job appointing the head coach of the Indian men’s team and the other coaches.” he signed off.
