Andre Russell has stated that five days, before the next World Cup match against Australia, are more than enough to gain full fitness. The hard-hitting all-rounder bowled at speeds hovering around 145 kmph against Pakistan on Friday but he was seen limping off the field due to an injury.

Andre Russell has had a frequent tryst with injuries throughout his playing career. Even in the Indian Premier League, he was suffering through a shoulder injury and even had niggles in his knee. He was declared fit for the World Cup and bowled a fiery spell of three overs against Pakistan on Friday. However, he was seen limping off the field after his spell due to a knee injury and did not return to bowl. He was not required to bat as the Windies easily chased down the meagre target of 105. The Jamaican cricketer reckoned that he has been playing with injuries for years now.

"I've been playing for years with these knee injuries. And sometimes it feels worse than some days but, at the end of the day, I'm a professional. I know what to do to get back. I think I have five days before the next game so that is more than enough time to get my knee back to normal and get it settled,” the 31-year-old told reporters, reported Reuters.

Despite giving assurance, Russell also hinted that there might be slight chances of him not recovering prior to the encounter against Australia at Trent Bridge on June 6.

"Let's just see what happens. I have a good physio team, massage team, here so they're going to be working with me closely for the next couple of days,” he shared.

Russell had only featured in two ODIs for his side since the previous edition of the World Cup. It is natural that he wants to be a part of every single match of the showpiece event. The big hitter was never at his 100 percent throughout the IPL but went on to feature in every single match and suggested that he will repeat the same in the ten-nation global event as well.

"I want to make sure that my knee is 100 percent or if it's not 100, 80%. I'm still ready to bowl. I'm ready, this is the World Cup. So I don't mind resting for a month or two months after the World Cup but I want to leave everything here for the World Cup,” Russell signed off.
