Sania Mirza took to Twitter to criticize the despicable ads that have been released by various Indian and Pakistani channels aimed at humiliating the other country. Wife of Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik, Mirza had some harsh words for all those trying to ruin the spirit of the game.

India-Pakistan matches have always been highly charged up affair, be it an Asia Cup match or even a bilateral tournament. Hence, when it comes to as big a stage as the World Cup, tensions were bound to escalate but this time around, they have taken a rather ugly turn and entered dark territory. There are many ads running on the TV channels in both countries aimed at the other side.

Tennis sensation Sania Mirza was quick to take to social media to slam the producers of such ads for brewing hate between the two countries and sent a strong message trying to make them understand that is no more than just a cricket match.

While Pakistan’s Jazz TV runs an advertisement which shows a figure very closely resembling Indian Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman who had a few months back been captured by the Pakistan Military before being allowed to come back to India. The person is seen sporting India’s jersey and the pilot’s trademark moustache, who utters the viral word, “I’m sorry, I am not supposed to tell you this,” when asked about India’s plans for the game.

On the other side of the border, Star TV has continued the running famous ‘mauka mauka’ ad campaign that was first established in the 2011 World Cup, which basically shows Pakistan referring to India as their ‘Abbu’, on the basis of the fact that the team has never beaten the Men in Blue in the six encounters between then in World Cup history.

“Cringeworthy ads on both sides of the border, seriously guys, you don’t need to ‘hype up’ or market the match anymore specially with rubbish! it has ENOUGH attention already! It’s only cricket for God sake, and if you think it’s anymore than that then get a grip or get a life !!,” Sania wrote on her twitter handle.

The two teams will face off against each other in what is one of the most anticipated matches of the tournament on Sunday with the venue expected to be packed with a houseful crowd.
