VIDEO | Wahab Riaz’s celebration turns despair in a second as Asif Ali drops a sitter
Wahab Riaz had a maniac day with the bat against Australia yesterday and had it not been the drop by Asif Ali, he would have said the same for his bowling too. Before Ali made the second drop, Riaz started celebrating David Warner’s wicket but that turned to despair as the hard-hitter dropped it.
The Australian opener had a blast yesterday and put together a solid 146-run partnership to set up a perfect launchpad for the middle-order to take over. However, they were also helped by the Pakistani fielders, especially Asif Ali, who dropped no less than two easy catches - one of Aaron Finch and one of David Warner - to give Australia two lives.
On the first ball of the 37th over, Wahab Riaz bowled a short of a length delivery outside off-stump to which Warner cut with full disdain. The Australian opener’s decision not to keep it down despite a fielder being stationed at third man meant Asif Ali was gifted an easy catch and Riaz was so confident that he even started celebrating.
Riaz raised his hand in celebration but couldn’t believe his luck when he saw Ali put that down. It was the second drop by Ali, who earlier in the game, had dropped Finch. Ironically, Riaz was the bowler then too.
