VIDEO | Aaron Finch goes for horrendous review even though bowler decides not to appeal
The DRS has been a massive revelation in the world of cricket but it comes with a fair amount of challenges as well. A team only gets on review per innings but Australian skipper Aaron Finch has made a massive mistake of not paying heed to his bowler, which resulted in a massive judgement error.
After posting a massive total on the board, the momentum was with Australia as Sri Lanka had a mountain to climb at the Kennington Oval. Sri Lankan openers started off briskly and were setting the tone for a successful run-chase. Their counter-attack left Australia bewildered as they were desperately looking for wickets.
On the fourth delivery of the tenth over, Kane Richardson's good length delivery angled across left-handed Kusal Perera and safely landed in the hands of Alex Carey behind the stumps. Not many were convinced if there was an edge as it was a half-hearted appeal from the bowler himself. But Carey and Shaun Marsh looked quite convinced and asked Aaron Finch to go upstairs.
The replays suggested that the ball had missed the bat by a mile as Australia ended up wasting a precious review. It’s true that they were in desperate need of a wicket but that doesn’t call for futile decisions like this one. Finch at least should have listened to his bowler.
