ICC World Cup 2019 | Mitchell Marsh returns to Australia A squad following Marcus Stoinis’ comeback
Mitchell Marsh has made his way back to the Australia A squad after Marcus Stoinis made a comeback from an injury he had sustained that had kept him out from the match against Pakistan, causing Marsh to come in as his cover. Travis Head expressed his delight on having Marsh back for his team.
Stoinis had suffered from a side strain while bowling in the match against India that had kept him on the sidelines for the Kangaroos’ next match against Pakistan. However, his injury has healed over time as he was seen practising in the nets and in full training sessions over the past couple of days. Today, he made his full comeback to the squad as he was included in Australia’s starting lineup to face Bangladesh at Trent Bridge.
This means that Mitchell Marsh is no longer of service to the senior squad and hence has returned to the A squad in Northampton just in time to feature in the first of five unofficial ODIs against Northamptonshire. The series would be followed by matches against Surrey and England Lions to complete the tour.
His teammate Ashton Agar has also flown back to the A squad after being present with the World Cup squad over the past few days. He had been called in by coach Justin Langer to provide practice to the players ahead of their clash against Shakib Al Hasan, who has a similar bowling profile and has been in prolific form.
Australia A coach Travis Head was pleased with the development both in terms of what the temporary call up meant for the two players and his own team’s prospects in the tour.
"It's nice to see them showcase their skills and go show they're still there around the (national) mark. Both enjoyed it, both went really well and it's nice to have them back," Head told cricket.com.au.
