Retired cricketer Mohsin Khan has announced his resignation as the chief of Pakistan Cricket Board Committee less than a year after his appointment to the position. The committee was formed to advise the Board on various matters as Ehsan Mani expressed disappointment over Khan’s resignation.

The Pakistan Cricket Board had formed a committee nine months ago consisting mainly of national icons and past cricketing stalwarts such as Wasim Akram, Misbah ul Haq and Urooq Mumtaz. Mohsin Khan had been named its chief as the committee was entrusted with the responsibility of assisting and advising the board on various matters. This includes the appointment of national coaches and selectors as well as conducting reviews among other such important jobs.

Only a couple of days ago, the Board of Governors in its 54th meeting had asked the members to conduct a thorough review of the players and the personnel staff over the past three years and submit recommendations to them as well as the PCB. However, the same is supposed to take place in July. This would mean the committee would be called into action after five long months, a fact that has disappointed its members considering Pakistan’s embarrassing World Cup campaign so far.

"I am very thankful to Mr. Ehsan Mani for honouring me with the opportunity to chair the PCB Cricket Committee. My services are always available for Pakistan cricket at a suitable position in view of my past record," Khan said tendering his resignation, reported Cricbuzz.

Rumours are afloat that Khan may have resigned to take over the team in some other capacity, with present head coach Mickey Arthur set to be sacked in all probability following the team’s return from England. The selectors may suffer from a similar fate. Meanwhile, PCB Managing Director Wasim Khan has been appointed as Mohsin Khan’s successor as chief of the committee.

"It is always difficult to let go someone of Mohsin's stature and calibre, but we respect his decision. I am thankful to Mohsin for his contributions and wish him well in his future endeavours,” PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani said of the resignation.
